Asking because I think it's the mutual connection for a couple people I just subscribed to.

Tho' I do think it's kind of dependant upon whether you know the old MIT crowd.

The first time I met Jo Walton, she asked me "Do you know Jon Singer?"

As a western Canadian, I don't know the old MIT crowd. I used to lurk on Making Light a lot around the turn of the century. I saw Jon's name come up in the comments. Gamelans! Lasers! Pottery!

It was a pleasure to meet and talk with him at Scintillation in Montreal.
